Awesome letter: Continue the conversation with your pen pal by asking and answering questions

We’re sharing real STEM professional letters to pre-scientists annotated by LPS teachers to provide STEM pen pals with inspiration and ideas for their own letters. We asked our 2021-22 LPS teachers to pick a letter that stood out to them and tell us why. We hope this series serves as a resource for pen pals to make letters accessible and engaging for pre-scientists.

This letter was written by STEM pen pal Morgan Ziegenhorn to a 7th grade pre-scientist for round 2. The theme this round was: Higher Education Journeys.

The letter was annotated and reviewed by LPS Teacher William Gabriel, and here’s what he had to say:

Morgan’s letter is handwritten and included colors and drawings. She really engaged with the student by answering student’s questions and referring back to topics mentioned in the letter to form connections. She also stayed on theme with the letter round.

Check out the letter below with Mr. Gabriel’s annotations in red text. Thanks to Morgan for not only being a great pen pal, but also allowing us to annotate and publish her letter so others can benefit!
