One of the ways LPS strengthens our community is through our annual LPS program sticker. For the second year in a row, we’ve hosted a sticker design contest, inviting our students—whom we affectionately call pre-scientists—to share their creativity. This year, we received an impressive 66 submissions, and we’re excited to announce that the winning design came from an 8th grader in Southern California! It’s a tradition we’re proud to continue, celebrating our students’ artistic talents and fostering connections across our community.
With the winning design in hand, we printed a total of 6,925 stickers and sent them out to all 46 teachers across 15 states and 1 US territory. Our goal: to ensure that each pre-scientist receives two stickers—one to keep, and the other to send to their STEM pen pal in their next letter.
The design of this year’s winning sticker was created by GM, an 8th grader from Southern California. Here’s what he had to say about his creative process:
“My design was inspired by a light I felt during the opening of my first letter. It made me excited to learn more about science and wonder more about life and all its glory. I’ve never been a great fan of science and its history, it was the class I least looked forward to throughout the day. Now I look forward to the class every day, I’ve grown an appreciation for science because of the Letters to a Pre-Scientists program. I feel a light now, I wonder more and more as the days go by, I give thanks to my PenPal for that.”
As a token of our appreciation, we gave GM a t-shirt featuring his winning design. If you love his artwork, stay tuned! We’ll be offering some exclusive merchandise with the design for purchase in the coming months.
Lastly, we want to take a moment to acknowledge our honorable mentions. A huge thank you to all of the talented pre-scientists who participated and to the dedicated teachers who made this contest possible. Below are just a few of the outstanding designs that stood out to us:
